An ultra modern city like the capital of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) can’t skip any detail, large or small, if it wishes to consolidate and extend its rapid progress, which is the reason that the Integrated System of Intelligent Transportation (ITS) has armored services, in the interest of providing Abu Dhabi with exceptionally safe and high quality means of transportation and roads.
The ITS will include automatic, bilingual audio announcements, offering up-to-date information about times, routes, traffic jams and accidents, via the Highway Assistance Radio (HAR) and Dynamic Messenger Signs near crossroads and trouble areas, especially on bridges, climbs and highway on-ramps.
ITS’ strategy, which includes projects for the next five years is also supported by CCTV surveillance cameras, together with internet and wireless phone notification services, which will provide drivers with easy access to information. The promoters of these measures believe that they will contribute to the decrease in highway accidents, more observance of the speed limits and a reduction of emission of gasses that contribute to the greenhouse effect.
Because of their characteristics, carrying out the strategic ITS projects, part of the Abu Dhabi 2030 Plan, will take time. Among the short-term projects that are already in a trial phase are portable signs with changing messages, accident detection sites, traffic cameras without punitive ends and a service on Internet relaying information about traffic build-up.
Those in charge of the project have affirmed that the ITS will se advanced communications and technology for information on transporting people and merchandise in the most efficient, quick and safe manner possible.
At the same time, ad with eye to keeping a cleaner city, the authorities will introduce a waste management tax which will be collected from every establishment in the Emirate that produces any kind of waste. The new plan will be applied to every industrial and commercial establishment, and will include even construction materials.
The tariff will depend on the amount of waste that each company produces daily. It is hoped that, other than decreasing the production of waste, the tax system will foster recycling and reuse of materials that usually end up in the trash. The center’s experts predict that the program, called Nadhafa, will serve to reduce the amount of waste materials produced during 2011, which at the present time reaches about 13,000 tons a day. At the moment, the center directs an installation which has the job of recycling used motor oil and presently works as study for establishing scrap metal plants.
Great opportunity for construction companies, construction materials providers, Integrated System of Intelligent Transportation providers, CCTV surveillance cameras providers and much more.
